News Update-July 2000

LIVING WATERS 2000

LIVING WATERS ran weekly on Thursdays, January 6 to June 22. Roger retired last year and received his MA from the Houston Graduate School of Theology on May 20. He was greatly missed, but I was very glad that Russ Kennedy helped co-lead this year. We also have Darrel interning. This year we started with 5 women and 4 men. Three of the women dropped out, and one of our men moved out of state (!) God has done some tremendous things through LIVING WATERS but there have been many attacks about people being able to attend regularly to complete the course.

LOVE WON OUT

The LOVE WON OUT conference in Dallas on May 5 was a great success, with over 800 in attendance at First Baptist, Dallas. It was sponsored by Focus on the Family, and provided many opportunities for ministry as all the Texas ministries had literature tables. We ministered to many hurting parents. We were also able to get together informally as regional leaders for some good fellowship.

PERSONAL ADS

In May and June, we took a step of faith to place an ad on the Back Pages of HOUSTON PRESS. The first read: TIRED OF BEING GAY? There is another way. Call 713 465 7045. Lots of hang-ups, a few vituperative messages, and a few conversations with the curious. In June (Gay Pride month) it read: COMING OUT OF GAY LIFE? We can help. Call 713 465 7045. We’ll se how God uses them.

HISPANIC MINISTRY

Exodus and I have dialogued about my being liaison person between them and Spanish speaking ministries in the US! We are still brainstorming. Currently, the only Spanish speaking ministry in the US is EL HIJO PRODIGO directed by Rigoberto Carrion in Orlando, FL.
I am still amazed by the number of e-mails and phone calls from Spanish speakers! God continues to send them to me. With Rigoberto’s help, I will be leading two workshops about Hispanic ministry at our national conference in San Diego July 22-29.

I am also very excited about the opportunity for me to minister again with Andy Comiskey and his team as they do a conference September 14-16 in Caracas, Venezuela. This will be my first trip to South America. This is a short conference they do as a prelude to the LIVING WATERS training. I have been asked by my friend, Enrique Garcia, of Zapatos Nuevos, the local ministry to be part of the prayer team. The generosity of my last college roommate, Larry, made this possible. I will also enjoy spending time with him and his family while there!

FREEDOM THROUGH GRACE: TEXODUS 2000

Gloria Zwinggi , Mary Brady, and others at Awakening/REACH ministries have been busily preparing since the beginning of this year for the South Central conference at the New Life Christian Center in San Antonio on Saturday, October 21. For $30 ( advance registration before October 1) you will be able to choose various workshops taught by various Exodus member ministries as others. Wouldn’t you love to get away to San Antonio for a weekend of inspirational and practical teaching and good fellowship? This will give you a glimpse of what goes on at our national conferences. We have a limited number of brochures at the CCR office, but you can also contact Gloria and her team directly at 210-633-2235 or 210-633-0917.

FUNDRAISER EVENT FOR CCR

Mark November 4 on your calendars. Marty McCall of FIRST CALL, Fletch Wiley, Sandra Organ, Randy Flinn, and Martha Dolittle have agreed to do a fundraiser event for CCR at the Encourager that Saturday evening. I met all these wonderful people through working with Randy Flinn with ArtReach and Dance Ad Deum the past few years. They are strong Christians who have dedicated their talents in performing to our Lord. This event should be really awesome. This will be the first major fund raising event we have had since 1988! We will also need volunteers to help with ushering, publicity, etc. Give us a call at 713 465 7045.

BACK TO EUROPE-AGAIN!

August 20-27 I will be visiting with my Swiss-French friend Mikael in Switzerland. Last year Mikael was here in Houston to learn English. Speaking French with him greatly benefited me as God took me to France twice last year.

Mikael graciously extended an invitation for me to visit, and this year it will help as I may be French translator for some workshops at the EXODUS 2000 conference in England August 28 to September 1. In addition I will be teaching two workshops there on breaking through cultural barriers in ministry. This will be my first opportunity to teach at a European conference. I am becoming increasingly comfortable with my colleagues abroad, as God begin to open doors for international ministry in 1994.

TESTIMONIES

Your steadfastness gives hope to those who have struggled. I can see the need and validity of your ministry. I just read your newsletter and wanted to write and just let you know how much I sincerely appreciate you surrendering your life to bring healing to others through Christ’s love and grace.

Thanks, for everything Michael, you changed my life. I know it sounds trite, but I really don't think I would be where I am (although not where I want to be) if you hadn't had the insight and wisdom that you shared with me.

I want you to know that God has used your testimony in the EXODUS UPDATE in my life in a VERY powerful way.

I am very thankful that the Lord led me to this place and this group....Thanks for the Love! Thanks for the dedicated, caring leaders and leadership.

Thank you so much for your work and dedication in the Living Waters program. I have gained a great deal in the last year through your ministry. I know sometimes I seem flaky and rebellious, however, I want you to know that your work is the Lord's blessing in my life.

RELECTIONS FROM MICHAEL

Each time I sit down to write a ministry report, I am overwhelmed to see so many instances of God’s faithfulness You can see how God has widened the extent of our ministry, in opening locally, statewide (as Exodus regional representative), nationally, and internationally. I am especially encouraged with the overseas opportunities utilizing abilities in Spanish and French (lining up with my academic preparation).

God is doing new things, as we care coming into a new season of ministry. There is an even greater need abroad for what we do here through CCR. Even though the two overseas ministry trips were within our budget (Venezuela was a special designated gift), these trips usually produce no revenue for CCR. Earlier this year, I declined 3 overseas trips, because of lack of finances and support personnel. Your financial gifts have great impact. Of approximately 1600 on this mailing list, about 60 contribute to make ministry happen. We appreciate your prayers. We need volunteers to help with office, etc. Won’t you please consider a special financial gift or a pledge to permit us to go forward to the nations?

Blessings to You in the Name of Christ Jesus,

Pastor Michael Newman

P.S.

UPDATE ON ADRIENNE

Old Snaggletooth didn’t win! The cancer was fully contained and a b-1 level tumor that needs no further treatment, as it's ALL gone... I literally {just like my previous 11 year old breast cancer surgery} felt no pain after the surgery. Before I went in to surgery, I once again, gave my life totally into the Lord's hands..... I have healed even faster than the doctors thought possible.

I want to thank everyone who prayed for me, so very much. We truly need each other and I love you guys a lot!

With Thanksgiving and Rejoicing,

Adrienne Godre
